Case 2: Intraoperative CVI

In a patient undergoing surgery on the ascending aorta, we observed a brief, transient dip in the NIRS with a full recovery just after manipulation of the carotid artery. Briefly afterwards, the bispectral EEG revealed the picture shown. Surgery was completed in a minimal and expeditive manner. The postoperative CT confirmed cerebral ischemia.

A recent publication examining EEG for stroke identification may be found here.

Case 1: Quadricuspid Aortic Valve

In a patient undergoing emergency CABG, we were delighted to find a quadricuspid aortic valve. Surgery was uneventful.

A recent publication of this rare anomaly (0.01 to 0.04% estimated) may be found here.
